IRC - Internet Relay Chat
IRC is the oldest form of real-time Internet text messaging (chat) system around, and is commonly used among gamers. Gamers mainly use QuakeNet as their IRC network
It's common for clans, servers etc to have their own channels on Quakenet. Besides that you will find stuff like "pickup servers", where you can instantly sign up for matches on various mods, get assigned to a team etc. Basically IRC is a great way to hook up with other players.
So how does it work ?
On the left menubar you will find IRC web client. This will open a web based IRC client in a new browser window, and does not require you to install any additional software.
The second option is to install an IRC client. There's a whole lot of different clients around, and we're not gonna point out what's "best". However, mIRC is probably the most commonly used client. It's easy to set up, and comes with a list of different QuakeNet servers in your area.
Once you've installed your client and connected to QuakeNet you may list all channels on the IRC server by typing /list. This will give you a looooong list. To filter your output you may type i.e. /list ut2004. This will display only channels containing "ut2004" in the name.
If you know the channel you want to join, simply type /join #channelname.
iTS on IRC: #ut2004.iTS
Besides hooking up with iTS players & crew we run different scripts in our channel. You will at all times get realtime updates on what's going on at our servers. There are also various channel triggers you may use:
!its.commands
lists all IRC commands
!news
Display the latest news.
To search for news postings containing certain words, type i.e.
!news TAM. This will display any posting containing the word
"TAM".
!its.servers
Get a complete list of all our public servers, with
query triggers, ips etc
!its <server> / !its.p <server>
To query our servers, type i.e. !its ictf, !its tam,
!its tam2 etc.
See !its.servers for a complete list of triggers.
This will check the server and display the amount of players,
which map is being played etc. If you add .p in the end (i.e.
!its.p tam, !its.p ictf2 etc) the query will include which
players are online on the server and their score.
The same query might be used on external non-iTS ut2k4
server. Simply type !its <ip>:port. To display with players, use
!its.p <ip>:<port>
See you around, and have fun :)
